WCY invite results
On January 26th 20 of our swimmers attended the 2nd Waldo County Invite. This group was led by coach Victoria and assisted by our elder swimmer Eli Story. They must have given a great inspirational speech because we had some really great accomplishments at the meet.
The first part of this is the experiments in new events. We had a bunch of swimmers post times (for the first time) in new events. Congratulations to Andrew Zimmerman, Mason Lamontagne and Gudrun Ziemer for completing and posting a time in the 25 butterfly, to Alice Lazure and Moiyah Shuron for the 50 free, Owen Munzing for completing the 50 butterfly and Nathaniel Bartlett for completing the 50 backstroke. I should mention, with respect to Owen and Nathaniel, they both should be commended for sticking with it after multiple disqualifications. The persistance paid off!
The great performers of the meet include Mirabel Patrick dropping 2 seconds in the 50 free, Ian Dickson dropping 3 seconds in the same event, Nathaniel Bartlett taking that a bit further and dropping 4 seconds, and Gabby Lazure topping them all by dropping 6 seconds off her 50 free.
The backstroke events also produced some impressive time drops, with Sophia Wilcott and Moiyah Shuron each dropping 4 seconds in the 25 backstroke, and Caleb Wilcott dropping 6 seconds in the 50 back. Gudrun Ziemer, however, topped them all by dropping a whopping 13 seconds off her 25 backstroke.
In the breaststroke one swimmer had a major time drop, but it was so important from a team standpoint that it has brought much joy to the coaching staff. Gabby Lazure dropped 10 seconds in her 25 breaststroke and has thus provided the final piece to a fine medley relay combination. Great job by the 20 who swam!
