More info on state meet
February 19th
I've been getting some questions about State Meet, and realized that I haven't done a very good job of explaining things for our new swimmers. This, coupled with all the USA swimming info that gets posted, has probably caused some confusion.
So here is my attempt at some clarity:
Everyone on the team can swim at YMCA State Meet. The only criteria is that they have competed in three YMCA meets during the season (which would include the two invite meets at Waldo County, all dual meets and the All Star Meet...so 3 out of the 8 Y meets that we participated in). I don't think we have any issues with the three meet rule and I've checked a couple of times.
I do the entries for Y State Meet in the same manner that I do a dual meet entry. I just assume everyone is in and enter them unless contacted with notice that the swimmer can't attend.
The meet itself is run in sessions, starting with the 13 and up girls on Friday afternoon (night). 9-10 and 11-12 boys start off the Saturday sessions, followed by 10 and under girls and 13 and up boys. On Sunday the meet opens with the 8 and unders (8 am warm up and 9 am start). The meet concludes with the 11-12 girls session on Sunday.
Information on warm up times, a map of the pool/building, and job opportunities have been listed on the website under the schedule tab. If you go to the State Meet and look at the "family info" document it will provide session times and additional information.
One final thought for new families...get there early for tickets. I would seek out parents who have done this before for advice on how early as they can share their experiences from years past on different sessions.
Any questions let me know at [email protected].
