Winter Champs trials results!
This past weekend 24 of our swimmers attended the Winter Champs Trials Meet at Bath Y. This was our first time attending this meet, and the objective was to add both additional swimmers and events to our entry list for Winter Champs in two weeks. In this regard we were very successful, adding three additional swimmers, and 39 cut times over the course of the two day meet. Overall it appears from a statistical standpoint to be the most successful meet that I've ever been involved in with 22 of the swimmers achieving best times, and the percentage of best times being in the 90+% range. The time drops were also staggering. It's one of those moments where a coach learns more from his swimmers then he could ever teach them, and what I learned is that the positive outlook the group brought into the meet was really effective in making them successful. The swimmers at the meet, across all age groups, understood why they were there and were highly motivated to get the job done. It was really inspirational to sit with them and watch what they did this weekend.
Congratulations to our three last chance qualifiers! Tyler Foster and Tyler Cahn both qualified in the 50 freestyle. Morgan Henderson's hard work this year finally paid off and she qualified in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.
We also had two team records set at the meet. Ryan Emerson, competing in his last meet in the 13-14 age group reset his 400 IM record with a 4:51.69, and Jameson Russell reset his 200 fly record in the same age group with a 2:39.24.
A final thought on the meet, and that is to thank the parents who volunteered, and to thank the parents who wrote cut times on their kids hands, or otherwise helped the swimmers get the idea of what were doing into their heads. Your efforts and encouragement played a big part in what occurred at the meet this weekend. These kids oozed positive energy and because of that were really successful. So keep it up and lets get everyone on board with focusing on swimming fast at Winter Champs!
