Stingrays -- Calling all Volunteers for the State Meet 2/27/26
Hi Stingray families,
We still have a whole month of practice left, but it's already time to start planning for the State Meet on 2/27, 2/28 and 2/29.
Hope you can also make it to Spirit Night on Thursday, February 25th at 5:30 pm in the Y gym for pizza, poster making, and fun!
Volunteers are needed for all of the sessions over the State Meet weekend. You can sign up as a Timer, Gate Volunteer, 50/50 Raffle Seller, Clean Up descriptions are below **scroll down.** Some parents have decided to volunteer in a session before or after their swimmer's event, so they can sit in the stands. Others like to be on deck for their swimmer's events.
Either way, we need **ALL** families to help.
The YMCA State Meet will be held at Colby College from February 27th to 29th. To sign up for a role, please go to the Stingray’s Website, or email me at [email protected]. This will bring you to the schedule tab (look for the green button that says "Job Signup") and select a role. If you have trouble with the website, reply to me at this email and I can sign you up on a first come basis.
Here are the jobs and sessions shown on the schedule tab, times for the sessions are also available on the website:
- session 1 (13+ girls) head timer and 1 regular lane timer
- session 2 (8 & under girls and boys) 1 person to sell 50/50, 2 timers lane 1
- session 3 ( 9-10 girls) head timer 2 timers lane 2
- session 4 (13-14 & Senior boys) Gate person, 2 timers lane 1
- session 5 (9-10 & 11-12 boys) 2 marshals 2 timers lane 1
- session 6 (11-12 girls) spectator area clean up, 2 timers lane 6
- Gate: For this job, you help out at the Admission table for the event. KVY is providing two helpers and there will be two from another team. You collect admission fees, sell heat sheets. The bulk of the work happens before the meet starts, so you can still watch the meet.
- Timer: You will be trained on deck. It isn’t difficult and there are always two timers per lane so the responsibility averages out. You will be required to attend a timers’ meeting about 15 minutes before the session starts. This meeting is given by a trained USA Swimming Official. They will tell you how to do the job and then ask you to go stand by the lane you will be timing. Timing involves starting the stopwatch on the start and stop it on the finish. You will write down the time, clear your watch, and be ready to start all over again with the next race.
- 50/50 Tickets: Sell 50/50 Raffle Tickets in the lead up to the session.
- Marshal: Arrive 15 minutes before warm ups, check in with the meet director or referee. Wear a stylish neon vest. Make sure swimmers don't dive into the warm up area unless supervised by a coach - enter feet first only. Check locker rooms for no-cell phone use. Notify coaches/referees of unsafe/inappropriate swimmer behavior. Check in with referee before leaving. You can watch the meet from on deck.
- Spectator Area Cleanup: Check in with the meet director for a trash bag. Gather up trash from the spectator area.
