Now that our final regular season meet is in the books, it’s time to focus on the State Meet. This is a VERY important meet for the entire Stingray team! We need EVERY eligible (i.e., those that participated in 3 or more meets this season) swimmer to participate in EVERY event our coaching team determines is a good fit (up to 3 events). Not only is this a great opportunity/experience for individual swimmers and the team as a whole, but this is also a great opportunity for the Stingrays to move up in the state rankings. The points earned in relays and individual events at States are tallied and the totals determine championships, as well as the rankings for next year . . . The higher we rank, the better (and usually larger) the opposing teams we swim next year!
Here are the dates/times of the State Meet again:
- Friday, March 3rd
- 13-14 and 15-18 Girls - Warmups at 4 pm, 5:15 pm start time
- Saturday, March 4th
- 9-10 and 11-12 Boys - Warmups at 7:30 am, 8:40 am start time
- 9-10 Girls - Warmups at 11:30 am, 12:40 pm start time
- 13-14 and 15-18 Boys - Warmups at 4 pm, 5:10 pm start time
- Sunday, March 5th
- 8 and under Boys and Girls - Warmups at 8 am, 9 am start time
- 11-12 Girls - Warmups at noon, 1 pm start time
If you cannot participate in the State Meet, please let Coach Mike know ASAP ([email protected])! It is VERY important for us to have accurate counts and a commitment to attend and participate. As mentioned above, this meet not only impacts your swimmer, it impacts the entire Stingray team . . . Coach Mike builds the psych sheets to maximize swimmer performance and maximize team points, and relays bring us a lot of points
. . . One no-show or scratch for a relay = 0 points . . . AND it reduces each relay swimmer’s possible event count from 3 down to 2 (i.e., The maximum number of events per swimmer at States is 3). During the regular season, coaches can substitute other swimmers into events for no-show and/or scratch swimmers. At States, after Coach Mike enters a swimmer into an event and submits the final entry to the Meet Coordinator, there are no changes allowed. Again, one no-show or scratch for a relay = 0 points and forfeiture of one event for each of the other swimmers. At this point in the season, swimming truly is a team sport! Our swimmers and coaches have been working hard all season and we are planning now for the best possible outcome at States! Let us know if you have any questions or need any clarification.
Attached are several files to help you navigate the State Meet:
- Family Info 2017 – This document provide some details, especially for State Meet “rookies”

- Map of the Memorial Gym
- Map of the KVY Stingray team location on the pool deck (so swimmers know exactly where to find their team)
Finally, we do need volunteers for each session. Depending on the session, we need timers, cleanup folks and gate helpers. There are only a few slots for each session, so sign up early (via our website) if you are interested.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions . . . With over 50 new swimmers this year, we anticipate some questions
Thanks,
Gary & Kristy
