Penobscot Bay YMCA Dual Meet Details

    Hi Stingrays!

We have our first regular/dual meet of the season this Saturday (11/19) at Penobscot Bay YMCA in Rockport! Our swimmers and coaches have been working really hard to get ready for what should be a very fun day for 104 (currently) rookie and veteran Stingrays.

Here are some details for you:

    • Warm-ups begin at 12:30 pm, so please be sure your swimmer is fed, dressed and on deck by 12:15.
    • The meet begins at 1 pm.
    • We will have 5 Meet Marshals (i.e., parents who help swimmers by: marking them for their events, answering their questions, keeping them focused and corralled and ensuring they are where they need to be for their events) on deck to assist your swimmers.
    • Attached is the Entry Report, which lists your swimmer’s events.

Meets are fast paced and exciting, but they can also evoke some jitters and/or anxiety, perhaps especially for rookie swimmers. As you probably know, this is completely normal . . . In fact, a small to moderate amount of stress/anxiety actually improves performance. Too much, on the other hand, is not only detrimental to their performance, but it is also detrimental to their meet experience (which we want to be very positive!). You are the expert re your swimmer(s), but we are happy to share some helpful stress reduction tips if you need them. We do encourage families to be sure their swimmers eat/drink healthy/well and get to bed early the night before a meet. They should eat/drink healthy/well for breakfast and lunch and be careful to maintain their energy and hydration throughout the meet. A typical meet will last 2-4 hours, so it is important for swimmers to pack (or purchase) snacks and drinks to stay powered up. Enjoy the process and HAVE FUN!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

    Thanks,

    Gary & Kristy
