Practice Meet Results
Good afternoon,
Whew! . . . Our practice meet is in the books! It was a busy night with lots of learning, lots of great swims and lots of happy swimmers!
Attached are the results . . . The results are meant to show swimmers (and parents) their personal times; they are not meant to show them what place they finished. As you know, this was a practice meet and we had swimmers with varying abilities, ages, and genders swimming during the same heat. At a real meet, swimmers are grouped with their age group and gender (e.g., 8 & Under Boys, 9-10 Girls, etc.) to determine how/where they finish and how many points they score for their team.
A few differences that you will see during real meets:
- Our swimmers will be sitting as a team on the deck
- We will have many more Meet Marshals on the floor working with the swimmers (to be sure they are marked, prepared and present at their events)
- Swimmer’s events will be posted in the pool area a few days before the meet, so every swimmer and parent will know what events they are swimming ahead of time
- Our overall organization is tightened during a real meet (e.g., volunteer check lists on the web will ensure proper staffing—with your help J, timing equipment has now been tested, swimmers and parents now know what to expect, etc.)
A few things you may or may not know . . . The Stingrays grew 50% this year! Woohoo! We have welcomed many new swimmers/families, we have welcomed several new assistant coaches, we are welcoming a number of new officials, we are welcoming many new parent volunteers, etc. Even with a few very minor glitches (which may not seem “minor” to kiddos who missed a swim), we anticipate and actually expect some of those during a practice meet, and we are pleased with the overall outcome.
THANK YOU! to all of our veteran and rookie volunteers! Without you, the Stingrays lose their sting.
As always, please let us know if you have questions, comments or concerns. Happy to hear from you . . .
Thanks,
Gary & Kristy
